6. Burial ditches by Mølbjerg

On a promontory south of the Bredkær brook two burial ditches have been found. Burial ditches, which were dug at the beginning of the later Stone Age (4000–1700 BC), are believed to be forms of cult centres located on hilltop sites. The site itself was encircled by timber palisades along which ditches were dug, and repeatedly redug. The ditches often contain human bones, and the cult centres are thought to have been used for interim burials. The enclosures would have been sacred ground, dedicated to the souls of the dead as part of a burial cult.
